Chaukori- The hidden beauty

Chaukori  a kaleidoscopic  hill station set among the lofty peaks of the western Himalayan range is in the Pithoragarh district of the Kumaon Division of Uttarakhand, India. 

Chaukori is one of the few places in Kumaon, where you will find aromatic luscious green tea gardens. Cupped within the high Himalayan peaks like a bowl features nature’s blissful landscapes, unpolluted and quiet. A land bestowed with natural abundance.

From here you can see The scenic Greater Himalayan peaks of Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, Panchchuli and Annapurna treating you to fabulous sunrise and sunset.

Patal Bhuvaneshwar cave temple

A limestone cave temple 20 km from Chaukori, is located in the village Bhuvaneshwar. According to the legend, 160 m long and 90 feet deep, a series of caves within caves, enshrines Lord Shiva and thirty three crore Gods and Goddesses.

Gangolihat

A small Himalayan town 35 kms from Chaukori is an important religious center for Hindus and is famous for Hat-Kalika temple of goddess Kali.

Berinag

Situated at 10 kms from Chaukori offers panoramic views of the Himalayas. Here, high quality tea producing tea gardens also mesmerize you.

How to reach

By Air:  At 227 kms from Chaukori, with regular flights from New Delhi, Pant Nagar is the nearest airport. Taxis are easily available.

By Rail:  With  frequent trains from major destinations of India like Delhi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kathgodam at 193 kms from Chaukori is the nearest railway station. Taxis are easily available.

By Road: Chaukori is well-connected by road with major cities of the northern India. Buses and taxis are easily available from major destinations of the Kumaon region.

Where to stay

There are many staying options like hotels, resorts, guesthouses and tourist lodges available for a stay. KMVN the Government rest house is the best (for views of the Himalayan range) and the popular staying option.

Best time to visit

You can visit all year round. But the summer months

April to June before the start of monsoon are good to visit.

September to November before the start of harsh winters and then February and March is also good time to visit.

In, winter months of December and January temperatures are harshest with minimum temperature around freezing point but when the weather  is clear out it provides the beautiful views of the Himalayas

It is best to avoid the monsoon months of July and August.
